I have 20 years of criminal law experience. I have tried every major felony including murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, aggravated child molestation, child molestation, assault and battery, forgeries, and any kind of theft. I have also tried many misdemeanors including DUI. I have experience with high profile cases. I represented Sandra Ketchum in the Collier murders in Fayette County. That case has several books and documentaries about it. I also handled the appeal of the federal arson conviction of Butch Hinton, which involved the investigation of the disappearance of Shannon Melindi. I have also tried and won sex crime cases. I handle criminal cases from arrest to a final appeal, if the case goes that far. I have hundreds of hours of court room experience doing this type of law.
A lot of people wonder how a lawyer can help or represent people who are guilty of serious crimes. Everyone is entitled to due process in our criminal courts. The state has the power to deprive people of the liberty, property and even their life. Only a lawyer stands between this awesome power of the state, and the use of that power against its own citizens. I have held the trembling hand of the accused. I do my best to protect them.
On the left of this page, there is a link to a case I eventually took the U.S. Supreme Court (Brown v. Georgia). The link is to the Petition for Certiorari I filed asking the Court to review the constitutional issues I had raised regarding my client's sentence of life without parole. The Court denied the petition but that case illustrates how a lawyer can find issues to assist clients even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
If you are in trouble with the law, I can help you. I will meet with you, discuss your situation, and give you an honest appraisal of your circumstances.
